Ruth Purdie OBE honoured with award at Project EDWARD Parliamentary Reception

The Road Safety Trust is delighted to share the news that our CEO, Ruth Purdie OBE, was honoured with a prestigious award at the annual Project EDWARD reception held at the Houses of Parliament on Monday 9 December.

The event, which celebrated nearly a decade of Project EDWARD (Every Day Without A Road Death), brought together key figures from the road safety community to reflect on progress and inspire further action. Ruth was invited to speak at the event in recognition of her pivotal role in founding Project EDWARD in 2015, demonstrating her ongoing commitment to making our roads safer.

In a surprise announcement, Ruth received the award from Lilian Greenwood MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Future of Roads. The accolade acknowledges her dedication, leadership, and unwavering determination to improve road safety.

James Luckhurst, founder of Project EDWARD, commented:

"The first of our awards is entirely appropriate as Project EDWARD gets ready to enter its tenth year. Ruth continues to work with impressive energy, demonstrating inspiring leadership in road safety on a national level – but this award is actually long overdue and it’s our personal way of saying thank you to Ruth for saying yes to Project EDWARD in 2015."

As General Secretary of TISPOL, Ruth worked with European governments, senior police officers and road safety experts to deliver a co-ordinated approach to road safety across Europe. She was awarded an OBE in 2021 for services to Policing and Road Safety and became Chief Executive of The Road Safety Trust in 2023.

This timely recognition underscores Ruth's incredible influence across the road safety sector. Her tireless advocacy, forward-thinking leadership, and collaborative approach are integral to the Trust's mission of achieving safer roads for all. On behalf of everyone at The Road Safety Trust, we congratulate Ruth on this well-deserved accolade and thank her for her continued inspiration and dedication to road safety.
