Road Safety Trust supports ‘No Need to Speed’

This week we are proud to be supporting Road Safety Week (16-22 November), the annual event to promote safer road use. Road Safety Week 2020 focuses on the what, the why, and the where of speed.

Only a quarter of people think vehicles travel at a safe speed on the street where they live according to charity Brake who organise the annual Road Safety Week. The research also found that six in ten people feel that the speed of traffic on their street negatively affects their wellbeing and two-thirds identify motorised traffic as the biggest threat to their health and safety on their street.

Sally Lines, CEO of Road Safety Trust said:

“Through independent grant-giving, we are working towards our vision of zero deaths and serious injuries on UK roads. We know speeding is a major cause of road traffic collisions and with the encouragement of active travel by the Government, the what, why and where of speed has never been more important. We would like to remind drivers to remain vigilant on the road and say no to speed.”

Joshua Harris, Director of Campaigns for Brake, the road safety charity, said:

“Road Safety Week provides a unique opportunity, every year, to focus attention on how the safety of our roads impacts all our daily lives. Speed plays a part in every crash and just 1mph can mean the difference between life and death on the roads. This Road Safety Week we want to help everyone understand why speed matters and to join together to say there is ‘No need to speed’ on our roads.”

The Road Safety Trust, a charity dedicated to making the UK’s roads the safest in the world, will open its Main Theme Programme to applications on 25 February. Funding is available for public and private organisations, registered charities and not for profits. Grants are available for projects that explore how technology can reduce road offending and improve road safety.
