Project summary

This project achieved an amendment to the UNECE Regulation 167 to enhance its technology neutrality.

The UNECE Regulation 167 sets the minimum requirements for direct vision in HGVs, aiming to minimise blind spots that can lead to collisions involving VRUs.

The project was undertaken to address issues related to the regulation's applicability across different vehicle designs, particularly focusing on Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) with a range of widths.

The primary goal was to ensure that the regulation remains effective in reducing blind spots and improving the direct vision for HGV drivers, thereby enhancing the safety of vulnerable road users (VRUs) like cyclists and pedestrians.
